Bobcats are common in the southwestern U.S.  and Canada. They belong to the class felis rufus. It gets it's name from it's "bobbed tail". Bobcats are often called lynxes. Cheetahs are the fastest cats in the world. They are sprinters not marathoners. They will however advoid the other big African cats whenever possible.Unlike your house cat, cheetahs can not retract their claws .In the 1960's cheetahs became an endangered species, today their numbers are climbing again due to conservation organizations .

Cougars are also known as mountain lions. Cougars main diet is deer.

 

 

Jaguars are the largest cats in the Americas.

 

 

Leopards are also solo hunters. Leopards are night hunters. See a real leopard hunting.

 

 

Lions are the king of the beasts. They are a very social cat species and live in prides composed of one or two males, several females and their offspring. Lions hunt in groups and therefore can hunt very large prey . Most people associate lions with Africa but they also inhabit Asia .

 

 

Lynxes are the only breed of cat to be found in both Europe and North America. Lynxes are endangered.

 

 

Mountain Lions also known as pumas and cougars, can be seen by hikers and campers in the desert west of the U.S.. Here are pointer's on living in close quarters with the mountain lion.

 

 

Panthers use to be common in Florida but are very rare now due to encroachment into their habitat.

Tigers are one of the most beautiful of the wild cats. But because of the tigers notarity, tigers have been hunted and trapped to near extinction. Tigers are now considered an endangered species.
